Toledo Non-Profit Event Photography. Water for Ishmael. International Dinner Fundraiser.
“We believe with our whole heart that Toledo is a place for all people to belong.
We are a community of welcomers. Whether it’s the WFI staff, board members, or volunteers, you’ll find that we are all passionate about seeing internationals find their purpose and belonging here.
Many of us have been strangers in a foreign land for a few months or a few decades. We understand the importance of a community that invites others in, empowers, and loves.”
March 2019 was my fourth year documenting the Water for Ishmael annual fundraising event. Each spring the staff, students, and volunteers put together a special event to raise funds for scholarships for ESL students. Dinner is served and includes dishes from many different countries. Some food is homemade and some is donated by a variety of local restaurants. The event also involves a silent auction, a bazar, cultural demonstrations and traditional dance performances.
It is truly amazing to see people from so many different countries and backgrounds gathered together under one roof to celebrate their differences. I really enjoy documenting the interactions and fun. I also enjoyed eating some amazing international food. It is encouraging to see so many people working hard to make sure that Toledo is a welcoming city.
If Water for Ishmael’s mission sounds like something you are passionate about, I encourage you to learn more about them on their website: https://waterforishmael.org/. Enjoy a look at this exciting event!
