My path is a lonely one for I am misunderstood,
The only company I can claim is the winsome bat and the wise old owl,
The coyote cries to me to bring him his prey.
I am the night.
I walk in shadows and I sing in solitude,
My eyes are closed but my ears hear every movement,
I bring rains of starlight and waterfalls of moon beams.
I do not sleep but I shroud the world in a breathing death,
For most, a temporary state of escape.
But to the dreamers, I can be cruel,
I whisper sweet visions of things that are long lost,
And things that might never be attained.
Worst fears realized,
All that I offer the sleeper is a cheap reflection of what reality might look like.
Wake sleeper!
Tip toe with me through the dewy grass in the hours before sunrise,
How will you find me you ask?
My face is the moon and my hair is glittered with stars,
My voice will remind you of a lullaby,
My song is sung by the wolf pack,
Kept in time by the beating wings of the bat.
Give me your darkest secrets,
Your dearest dreams,
Your midnight tears.
