Sisters. Sylvania Ohio. Family Photographer.
“Sister. She is your mirror, shining back at you with a world of possibilities. She is your witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway. She is your partner in crime, your midnight companion, someone who knows when you are smiling, even in the dark. She is your teacher, your defense attorney, your personal press agent, even your shrink. Some days, she's the reason you wish you were an only child.” -Barbara Alpert
Watching siblings play and interact at family photo sessions is always interesting. Some siblings tease, some wrestle, some even argue. I never expect kids to be perfectly behaved. Often, the adults struggle to listen to directions themselves. Not everyone feels comfortable and confident in front of a camera. That is ok. I make every effort to create a lighthearted and comfortable experience for all my clients. Sometimes, that means tossing the plan and trying something different.
Last October, I worked with a family who had two little girls. These ladies were spunky and fun. The older, often leading the younger, and being the instigator of mischievous behavior. I have one sibling. A younger sister. I cannot speak to having brothers because I did not have any until marriage brought me in-laws. Opposite of these girls, the younger of us was typically the instigator. Growing up with a sister was a wonderful experience. Sure, we were mortal enemies, but we were also best friends. We fought, we played, we yelled insults, we whispered secrets and we drove each other insane, but deep down we knew the other would die for us. Watching these two reminded me of how grateful I am to have a sister.
I hope that you have wonderful memories of your own siblings. If you did not grow up with siblings, I hope life brings them to you as an adult in other ways. Tell me about your brother and sisters in the comments.
