Charles brought his best boy, Nelsan, to my lavender field pet photo sessions at Luckey Road Lavender Farm. Nelsan is a very handsome Blue Heeler. He is extremely smart and loves to learn tricks and do activities. Check out Charles interview to get to know Nelsan!

Jillian was the winner of my Pet Photo Shoot giveaway for my Fluff-uary pet event. Jilly had over 100 votes cast to help her win the contest. Jillian’s owner, MK, is a student at BGSU in the music program. MK brings Jillian to campus regularly and she has a real fan following. I was told the whole orchestra was voting for her.
Holly is a Nurse Practitioner. When I asked her how she felt about entering a new decade she said, “I’m excited about turning 30! It will be a new adventure”. What a fabulous outlook. Holly was so wonderful to work with. She was positive and completely laid back. We had the session in the studio space at the Big Fab Lab in Bowling Green. Holly decided not to risk the Ohio weather by shooting outdoors. It was the right call because all of those balloons would have been blown away.
Marquita says, "I think the most remarkable thing about my pack is the fact that everyone of them loves home. I never have to worry about them running away (and that is EXTREMELY uncommon for huskies as a breed). They may get bored and find a way to escape, but the only reason I know they’ve gotten out is because they’re at the door smiling at their accomplishment."
"Family is family, whether it's the one you start out with, the one you end up with, or the family you gain along the way." One of my favorite things about working with families is that I get to see the diversity of what family looks like for each one of my clients. For some, family is just two. For others, family is furry. Some have big families, small families, blended families, single parent families. Some are family by blood, some family by choice. I enjoy celebrating all types of family!
It was a pretty piece left over from a gilded age. The young girl's mother had found it in the attic and thought it would look nice in her little bedroom. It hung unobtrusively on the wall waiting for the tot to be tall enough to see into its shiny mercurial depths.
Branding your business might sound like something that just happens. When you start your shop, your service, your product, branding and public image will just fall into place right? Wrong. Branding is something purposeful that every successful business has done. Branding has to do with logos, color schemes, names and aesthetic. But it is even more than that. From the way you speak about your business on your website to the smell your clients associate with your company, everything you do can impact your branding.
Jennifer proposed that we exchange portrait sessions and I just had to say yes! She and her husband, Jeremy, have a spaniel mix named Lucy. Lucy is an important part of their family so had to be included in their photos. My husband and I also brought our dog, Beatrice, who is a mastiff mix. Despite the size difference, Bea and Lucy got along perfectly. They both posed... kind of... and mostly paid attention to our directions. We got many precious shots of both of our little families!
Most of the time I am shooting for my job. I take portraits or I am documenting a commercial business. While all of my paid shoots involve my personal creativity, there are definitely expectations to get certain poses, light styles, a specific look. I am very happy to accommodate all of these things and often I also get to play a little for myself, but there is something truly refreshing about creating something just for yourself. No expectations except your own.
Autumn is nearly upon us. I have seen memes flooding the internet, counting the days to cooler weather, crunchy leaves, trick-or-treat, and, of course, the return of pumpkin spice EVERYTHING. People in the midwest really love the Fall!
I always ask my clients how they feel in front of the camera before I start a photography shoot. Are you nervous? Are you comfortable? This helps me to know how to lead their session and how to help them enjoy their experience.
No Disney princess; I am a warrior queen.
My hair is the color of the tropical sea, hemmed in by a crown of lost life.
My arms wear strength like golden cords, infused with the energy of roaring waves.
My body moves with agility and speed, like the currents of the laughing deep.
My gown shimmers and shifts, as the sun casting a broad arm over a calm horizon.
My tale would push me further and faster, ever moving to explore every ravine of the ocean floor.
Alas, my feet, keep me tethered to the shore.
When I began organizing my first group photo shoot, I planned to invite a variety of models to join us. The main goal for the event was to give each of the photographers an opportunity for practice and an environment in which to be creative. It is so easy, as a business owner, to become caught up in the "work" and forget the "art" that initially drew us to our profession. I decided to facilitate this day to return to the art without the pressure and restrictions that sometimes accompany a paid session.
The mighty Great Dane is known as one of the largest breeds of dog. The American Kennel Club attributes the Danes with three main character traits. According to AKC, Great Danes are friendly, patient and dependable. You might think of the famous, dopy comic character, Marmaduke, when you think of a great dane. Or maybe you think of the mighty boar hunters as they were first bred to be.
Kenzie looked cute as a button in her polka dots and giant bow! She ran around chasing her mom and her brother, hardly ever letting go of her ball. I was kept on my toes trying to anticipate her movements!
Corina chose three beautiful outfits! She claims that outfit number two (sheer with flowers) was her favorite, but I think she totally rocked all three! The Alice in Wonderland themed tank top was so cute and the dress... With those gorgeous shoes! Corina clearly has great fashion sense.
What could be more exciting for me than taking pictures?
Taking pictures and getting to help someone fulfill their dreams! Now, I have a quick disclaimer. This article is about my mom. Yes. My mom. I know it is a bit cliche and maybe a little personal... But when the blog inspiration strikes, I must listen!
So what does my photography business have to do with my mother? Well my mom happens to be a very talented lady. Yes, I am a little biased because I love her. But truly, she is brilliant. For the sake of giving her personhood in this post, I will be calling her by her first name, Amy. Amy is a writer. I am not sure at what age she began. Was it was journaling as a teenager? Was it was writing short stories as a child? I know she liked to write songs and play her guitar in high school. As long as I have known her, Amy has displayed a knack for the written word. She has a beautifully creative way of expressing thoughts and ideas. When I was a kid, I remember her creating fun bedtime stories for my sister and I. As we got older, she took a creative writing class and eventually began writing a historical fiction novel.
Amy did not finish that novel, but the process of writing many chapters, and doing in-depth historical research helped to shape who she is as a writer. Perhaps she will pick up that quest again someday...
Today Amy's quest is in a very different writing medium. Amy has just begun her first blog. Though writing a blog means less writing on one specific story or topic, it, in no way, means less writing. I gawked at my mentor when she suggested I write a blog post three times a week. Sure that would be ideal for my business, but really, I would have to change my schedule to make time for it. Amy decided to commit to blogging five days a week. FIVE. Maybe that is completely normal in the blog community, but I think that was very ambitious! Amy has kept true to her word and posted on her blog every single weekday since its launch on February 1.
Amy has five "topics" to each match a day of the week. Monday is Faith. This is where Amy discusses her beliefs as a Christian and gives daily wisdom and advice. Wednesday is Family. Family is something Amy values greatly and this is reflected in her writing as she explores what family means and how to take care of your relationships with them. On Thursday, Amy tells stories about Friends and she discusses ways to maintain these important relationships. Friday is Fluff day! Fluff is essentially a "catch all" where Amy can explore ideas outside of her other categories. Sometimes she share recipes, cleaning tips, movie ideas, or anything else that strikes her fancy. Usually it is something fun and lighthearted!
You may have noticed that I skipped Tuesday. Tuesday is my favorite day. Tuesday is Fashion day! Amy, aka Stylin Granny Mama, is not only a writer, but a pretty great fashionista! She loves shopping and learning about popular colors and various ways to accessorize. But Amy doesn't dress like a 28-year-old wannabe, Amy dresses in a way that flatters both her age and her body type. She is so excited to help other women, real women, learn to do the same!
Amy asked me to help her with images for her blog. It was a no brainer for her. Daughter = Photographer? Perfect! I am not only a relatively new photographer, but I had never done anything fashion related before! However, I adore details and photographing beautiful individuals, so I couldn't refuse! It has been quite an adventure! There are many things I hope to get better at as I learn more about how to best display Stylin Granny Mama's amazing wardrobe ideas. We have done two fashion sessions and will be planning for the summer shoot soon!
I really hope you enjoy looking at these images and I hope you will take a moment to check out this talented lady's blog!
