June & Paizley. Toledo Area Pet Photography. Whiteford StoneCo Community Park.
Last February I ran a special pet promotion. One of the FLUFF-uary events was a pet portrait session giveaway. June, the Dalmatian won the prize with top votes. Her owner, Kysha, informed me that June had been diagnosed with bone cancer in her back leg just before her first birthday. The veterinarian advised that amputation was going to be the best chance June would have to prevent the cancer from spreading.
When we scheduled June’s photos, she had to bring her sister, Paizley, along. Kysha recommended the Whiteford StonceCo Community Park in Temperance, MI. June was a couple of months post-op and her surgical site was all healed up. She jumped out of the car, ready to play, as though she had lived her whole life on three legs. It is truly inspiring to see the hardships dogs can overcome to have a good life.
Let Kysha tell you a little bit about these two sweet girls:
How old are they? June is 2 years old. Paizley is 4.
How did they come to join your family? “I adopted Paizley from a rescue. June was also given to me when she was 6 months by someone I went to high school with. I later found out she came from a breeder in Kentucky.
Was Paizley important in June’s recovery? “I think that Paizley was important as far as being around. She would sit by June and keep her company. I also think it benefitted June to see Paizley get around and do things once she lost her leg. June had to relearn a lot of typical behaviors, like how to get around. Paizley keeps June on her toes and keeps her active. “
What do they love to do together? “They love to play ball together, tug of war, and chase sticks. They also love sleeping; good snuggle buddies!”
I hope you enjoy the images we made together! Just look at that June run!
