This year for FLUFF-uary we decided to focus on the growing pet community in Toledo Ohio, specifically pet related small businesses. When we were talking about what type of pet business we wanted to highlight, I knew I wanted to do pet grooming. Who doesn’t love a sudsy pup or well groomed dog, right? When I think of grooming I always think of fluffy dogs like Huskies or doodles. The truth is, working with a professional groomer is great for all dog coat types. It helps keep up with nail trims, ear cleaning and can provide a more thorough clean then you can typically get in your tub. You also have none of the messy cleanup to do afterwards! Grooming also exposes your dog to new surroundings, smells, sounds and people.
Brooke, owner of a dog grooming business in Toledo called Hound Haven, loves what she does and you can tell! When I visited her salon the first thing I noticed was how calm the atmosphere felt. You can tell that all the dogs feel comfortable and trust their groomers, Brooke and Taylor. Brooke has been investing in the pet community around her shop in more ways than ensuring that the dogs in her care are well groomed. She uses an extra room in her shop to house Paws & People Pantry by Hound Haven, a pet and human food pantry that helps to provide to those in need in their community. The pantry is volunteer and donation based. You can find them on their Facebook Page.

Hi there! I'm Brooke, the proud owner of Hound Haven. I officially opened my doors on January 10, 2023, but I've been grooming pups since 2016. One thing that sets Hound Haven apart is that we're a completely cage-free salon. After working in similar setups at previous salons, I knew it was the way to go. Dogs tend to relax and feel more comfortable over time without the stress of cages. My top priority is making sure every dog feels safe and happy while they're here. I offer full-service grooming for dogs and even some fun extras like hair dye services! Nothing too wild—just a pop of color on tails or ears for a little flair. I also host a monthly walk-in nail trim clinic called Trim & Treat Night. During the warmer months, I invite local vendors to join the event so people can shop while their pups get pampered.
Beyond the grooming salon, I run a community pantry called Paws & People Pantry. What started as a little shed in my parking lot has now grown into a dedicated section of my building. We've come a long way since launching in August 2024, and the support from the community has been incredible. Watching it grow has truly been heartwarming. I’ll admit—I'm someone who usually needs a lot of downtime, but somehow I keep adding more to my plate (haha). Despite the chaos, I couldn’t be happier with how everything is growing.
I absolutely love the community we've built. Supporting other small business owners and helping the Toledo community as a whole brings me so much joy. I'm not originally from Toledo—I moved here in 2016—and for a while, I struggled to feel at home. But since opening my business and putting down roots, Toledo finally feels like a place filled with hope and opportunity.
