Meet Dennis:
Tell us about your personality, home life and hobbies.
My name is Dennis Sawan. I think that three words that describe me are energetic, positive and creative. In my free time, I love photographing landscapes and cityscapes, traveling, music and being around friends and family.
What do you do professionally? What education has lead you to where you are?
I am a lawyer practicing in the areas of personal injury law, business law and civil litigation. My education has been both in and out of the classroom. While I graduated from University of Toledo law school, I also gained significant and valuable insight as a video camera operator at the Indiana University School of Law as an undergraduate. I obtained invaluable real world experience as both an intern for the Toledo Public Defender’s Office, as well as in my role as law clerk for the Toledo Municipal Court. When I take off the lawyer hat, I create professional photography and videography for clients big and small at my creative company - Right Half Media - named after the more creative “right half’ of the human brain. I also create all the content and manage the Downtown 419 account on Instagram and Facebook.
Why do you love what you do?
I am a natural communicator, so litigation, negotiation and documentation come naturally to me. I also enjoy arguing, so the legal profession offers be a unique opportunity to do so in a controlled environment. I’m always struck by the awesomeness of the human connection the law can provide, especially in the type of work I do.
What is something about your profession that people may not know?
Modern day legal practice, especially for smaller firms, requires wearing a whole lot of different hats. Between search engine optimization, graphic design, photography, video production and public appearances - there is a lot that goes into the practice of law that may not be so obvious from the outside looking it. Our goal at Sawan & Sawan is to be a valuable public resource, especially for those that have been injured. In order to meet this goal, we have to consistently provide the public with useful and timely information, without expecting anything in particular in return. Over the years, we have remained steadfast in this commitment.
Why are professional headshots important to you?
Everything on the internet - but especially headshots - represents your brand. Reputation is tremendously important and that really starts with the first image that people see of you. If “there is no second chance for a first impression,” it’s all the more important that your headshots portray a positive and professional image.
What stood out to you about your experience with Jessica (and Rebecca).
Jessica and Rebecca clearly understood the importance of lighting, but at the same time, were willing to be creative with this important aspect of headshots. The range of lighting options that I was provided really helped me to get a final product that fits my style. Additionally, they both made me feel comfortable in front of their camera.
All photos were taken at the Rebecca Trumbull Photography Photo Studio in Sylvania Township by Associate Photographer Jessica.
