Most of the time I am shooting for my job. I take portraits or I am documenting a commercial business. While all of my paid shoots involve my personal creativity, there are definitely expectations to get certain poses, light styles, a specific look. I am very happy to accommodate all of these things and often I also get to play a little for myself, but there is something truly refreshing about creating something just for yourself. No expectations except your own.

Autumn is nearly upon us. I have seen memes flooding the internet, counting the days to cooler weather, crunchy leaves, trick-or-treat, and, of course, the return of pumpkin spice EVERYTHING. People in the midwest really love the Fall!
I am the day, the sun, the light,
I am the giver of life,
My eyes burn with bright passion,
And my skin glows with great love.
I always ask my clients how they feel in front of the camera before I start a photography shoot. Are you nervous? Are you comfortable? This helps me to know how to lead their session and how to help them enjoy their experience.
I asked Emily how they were preparing Maci for the baby and she said, "We let her sniff the baby things and play with the things we will be using for her and leaving them out for her to get comfortable around". It sounds like they have a good plan to make the transition comfortable for everyone!
We are glad to see Emily and Damon happy, with a healthy baby on the way! Best of luck to you both in this new adventure! Enjoy these photos from their Maternity Session at Providence Park in Grand Rapids, Ohio!
I am the night.
I walk in shadows and I sing in solitude,
My eyes are closed but my ears hear every movement,
I bring rains of starlight and waterfalls of moon beams.
I do not sleep but I shroud the world in a breathing death,
For most, a temporary state of escape.
No Disney princess; I am a warrior queen.
My hair is the color of the tropical sea, hemmed in by a crown of lost life.
My arms wear strength like golden cords, infused with the energy of roaring waves.
My body moves with agility and speed, like the currents of the laughing deep.
My gown shimmers and shifts, as the sun casting a broad arm over a calm horizon.
My tale would push me further and faster, ever moving to explore every ravine of the ocean floor.
Alas, my feet, keep me tethered to the shore.
When I began organizing my first group photo shoot, I planned to invite a variety of models to join us. The main goal for the event was to give each of the photographers an opportunity for practice and an environment in which to be creative. It is so easy, as a business owner, to become caught up in the "work" and forget the "art" that initially drew us to our profession. I decided to facilitate this day to return to the art without the pressure and restrictions that sometimes accompany a paid session.
If you observe Ruth and Priya interact for a few minutes, it is clear that they have a really special bond. Priya is definitely a strong personality, and sometimes she buts heads with her momma when she gets told "no" (what kid doesn't?). But Priya is totally smitten with Ruth and she loves her mom so much! The smiles that these two shared while singing songs together were priceless.
The mighty Great Dane is known as one of the largest breeds of dog. The American Kennel Club attributes the Danes with three main character traits. According to AKC, Great Danes are friendly, patient and dependable. You might think of the famous, dopy comic character, Marmaduke, when you think of a great dane. Or maybe you think of the mighty boar hunters as they were first bred to be.
These photos were taken on a beautiful property just outside of Toledo in Whitehouse, Ohio. We were hoping for a snowy scene, but all we got were gray skies. I like to think that the pine trees still helped to convey the season. I truly enjoyed working with Tessa and Max again! I hope you enjoy their adorable collection of photos!
Not only is the nature a wonder, but I found the diversity of its visitors to be an amazing sight! We walked through the park and heard many different languages. We saw multiple cultures represented by their clothing and style. It is truly an amazing idea that so many very different people find value in the same thing. We all had gathered together for the same reason. To see a gorgeous work of natural art.
Kenzie looked cute as a button in her polka dots and giant bow! She ran around chasing her mom and her brother, hardly ever letting go of her ball. I was kept on my toes trying to anticipate her movements!
The gardens were absolutely stunning. I really enjoyed the contrast of the manmade and the natural. The gardens were designed in a way that felt very comfortable and almost magical. I felt as though I was in the most wonderful outdoor museum!
Corina chose three beautiful outfits! She claims that outfit number two (sheer with flowers) was her favorite, but I think she totally rocked all three! The Alice in Wonderland themed tank top was so cute and the dress... With those gorgeous shoes! Corina clearly has great fashion sense.
Working with young children is always an adventure! You never know if they will smile or cry. Will they look at you or hid their faces in their mom's arms? Three-month-old Brinley was so good! She wasn't quite interested in smiling a lot, but she didn't fuss and she had some adorable poses!
Tessa has a huge heart for people and she gives 100% to everything she does. Tessa decided she "might" get a dog... As soon as she met Max, she had to say yes! After all, who can resist those puppy dog eyes?! Pet photography has got to be one of the most fun and unpredictable types of session I have done. This puppy was constantly on the move!
I had a blast with Jessica and McKenzie as we sent them off to prom! Jessica, her mom, McKenzie and I all met at Rachel Christensen's place early in the afternoon. Getting ready for prom is serious business. Both Jessica and McKenzie are graduating seniors this spring. McKenzie attends Lake High School and Jessica was invited to go to prom with her. Both girls being seniors, this was their last opportunity to attend!
Jessica was put in the hot seat first as Rachel did her makeup. Be sure to check out Rachel's work on her Instagram account! As soon as Jessica's face was finished, I began curling her hair. Meanwhile, Mckenzie got Rachel's full attention. I also helped McKenzie with her curls. Let me tell you, she has a LOT of hair! Officially I was just there to take pictures... But I got roped into styling hair as well. How can you say no to your sister-in-law?
Finally the girls put on their dresses and shoes and jewelry. Wow! As you can see below, these two were absolutely stunning for their senior prom! I really enjoyed being able to see them off and grab some photos to document the occasion!

Photography by Rebecca Trumbull. Rebecca Trumbull Photography serves northwest Ohio and offers portrait photography, event coverage, and commercial photography to Toledo, Bowling Green and the surrounding areas.
Jessica St. Johns is a good friend and a local Toledo photographer. She and I have enjoyed many evening "editing dates" over the last year. We mostly talk about business and girl stuff... Sometimes we actually get work done. Mostly we encourage each other with new ideas and talk about our dreams.
On occasion, Jessica and I get the urge to do some photos of each other for fun! We get to hone our skills behind the camera while also getting a reminder of what our subjects feel like in front of the camera. I find it much easier to direct and pose people when I know how things look from their perspective.
Rachel Christensen, my sister, is also one of Jessica's closest friends. Rachel was very excited to lend us some of her Makeup Artist magic! She did such an awesome job with our makeup and we both left the house feeling like rockstars.
Jessica and I ventured to one of our favorite shoot locations in Toledo at Sidecut Park. This place runs along the river and has a lot of variety in its scenery. Woods, meadows, river, a historical cemetery, an overlook, a gazebo and plenty of trails. What more could you ask for? We decided to explore a little and we got some really great settings. As the light began to fade, we tried to beat the sun and get a few shots of Jessica with her daughter, Ellie. Jessica is expecting her second child and it was wonderful to get to capture her and Ellie's relationship while Ellie is still an only child. Things are soon changing for them both, but they have a great relationship to be able to introduce the new baby into.
I hope you enjoy these photos of this truly beautiful woman!

Model Debbie Altman is a Princess...
I found out that Debbie was interested in pursuing some modeling and I jumped at the chance to do a personal project with her! I love doing themed shoots. Anything artistic that tells a story makes my creativity spike! I did some brainstorming with Debbie and we came up with the idea to do a princess outfit.
I have been slowly exploring the parks in the Toledo and Bowling Green area. I had not gotten the chance to do any photos at Oak Openings Preserve Metropark so I suggested we have an adventure and try it out. Debbie was in!
On the day of the shoot, my lovely assistant, Jessica, and my talented Makeup Artist sister, Rachel, joined us in preparing Debbie for her debut. Hair was curled and braided, foundation was applied and diamonds were donned. Debbie looked like a true princess. We had a great time, despite some chilly temperatures!
I hope you enjoy this magical story as you scroll through these photos!
