Summer Time Family Photos. In Northwest Ohio. Toledo Botanical Garden.

Ray contacted me to surprise his wife with a photo session gift for Mother’s Day. Ray and Mel have two tweenage kids, Katelyn and Junior. I love working with this age because the kids are usually happy to sit and smile but they are full of personality and fun. I was able to capture some hilarious candid moments and some sweet posed portraits. Ray shares a little bit about their family in the interview below!

Meet our family:

  • How did you meet and long have you been married/together? We met in a yahoo chat room of all places back in the summer of 2006 shortly after I arrived in San Diego for my Navy Sonar Technician school. We married at the San Diego courthouse in November of 2007 so we are coming up on 14 years!

  • What do does Ray do? I am a tooling and fixture designer for the Dana Technology Center in Maumee Ohio.

  • What does Mel do? Mel is a patient registration specialist for ProMedica. She ensures patients have all the correct info they need for their doctors visits!

  • A little bit about Katelyn? Katelyn is 12(going on 20 it seems) and excited to start 7th grade next year. She is funny and laid back with a bright smile and the uncanny ability to add a healthy portion of silliness to any room she enters. She enjoys chatting with her friends, playing video games, and learning to cook with her Dad.

  • A little bit about Ray Junior? Ray Jr is 11, and heading to the 6th grade. He is intelligent, thoughtful, and creative, and will talk your ears off if given the opportunity with the right subject. Don't ask him about video games unless you have an hour! He loves to play Minecraft with his friends, build with legos, draw, and listen to a variety of music.

  • What do you enjoy doing together as a family? We try to do as much as possible as a family. We love to go to museums, hiking adventures, play all kinds of board games, and discover new places. When we aren't out adventuring or playing games we enjoy nice quiet evenings snuggled up watching our favorite TV shows like The Office, Park and Rec, Scrubs, or spending quality time with friends and extended family.

  • What stood out to you about your experience with Rebecca? Rebecca is not only professional but she's laid back and easy to communicate with. She is also flexible with her availability which is a big plus for people like us who tend to stay pretty busy!

  • Why are professional photos important to you? I think professional photos do a great job of preserving the memory of who you and your family are at that point in time. Life seems to move forward so quickly. Fortunately a camera shutter opens and closes fast enough to capture little slices of it for us to reminisce about later. It's important to remember these slices of our lives because without memories of the past, the future is oftentimes less exciting.

All photos were taken at Toledo Botanical Gardens Metropark in Sylvania, Ohio
