Princess The Rooster. Chicken Portraits. Toledo Photography Studio.
From Jessica:
I have worked with chickens at other jobs and in general I have found them to be a lot to deal with. They are messy, loud and unpredictable. So when I prepared myself for having one in the studio I was ready for chaos. I told myself not to expect to get the perfect photo, and if I got anything it would be a miracle. Imagine my surprise when this gorgeous, large rooster came into the room and was absolutely wonderful! He was calm and totally fine with me getting close to him with my camera. This man knows he is handsome and enjoys all the attention and complements.
Working with different animals shows me how each species has a variety of personalities and temperaments. The biggest thing that I have learned is to be patient and to have realistic expectations of an an animal. Walking into somewhere new and unfamiliar is hard for anyone to do but imagine not being able to understand any of the contexts of what is going on. Some animals are extroverts and love new and exciting things, others are introverts and want nothing to do with the camera. Making your pet as comfortable as possible at their session is our number one goal. Having studio photos of your pet might not be right for them, outdoors or in your home is always an option!
Tell Us About Princess:
Princess is a Barred Standard Cochin rooster…. I ordered about 30 chicks 8 years ago and they were all supposed to be female. As “she” grew it was clear from the start how beautiful magnificent and majestic this bird was going to be hence the name Princess… Well… Princess started crowing and I tried calling him Prince but it just didn’t feel right… he was still so beautiful Princess stuck and to heck with gendered names anyway! I have one rule on my farm and that’s be kind… that goes for roosters too… Princess has always been the utmost of a gentleman to all of his lady followers… he takes time to watch over them… he finds them tasty treats and coos them over to him so he can share. He’s a very docile soul and while he doesn’t love to be held he always is close by watching what i’m doing. If i’m not in a great mood he will sit next to me in peace. He has a glorious crow and everyone who visits the farm takes special notice of him. He is a true gentleman and a genuine sweet soul! I’m hoping he has 8 more years in him but i will enjoy every day he struts my farm.
Tell us about your experience:
The studio was just what it needed to be… calm cute and welcoming… with Princess’ relaxed nature he was not phased at all by the pictures Jessica was taking. Jessica was patient and stealthy as she snapped all his perfect angles. I’m very grateful she offers this wonderful service!
