Natalie Turns One. First Birthday Portraits. Toledo ohio Photography studio.

I was so excited to get to photograph Natalie for her first birthday! I love kids and I enjoy creating in the studio. Natalie’s mom wanted the theme of the photos to match her first birthday party theme of the Secret Garden. She bought some hanging flowers to add to our green backdrop. I also had Natalie bring along some of her favorite stuffed friends to share the spotlight with her. Natalie was on the go during her photoshoot, either crawling or walking with assistance, so I had to be ready and anticipate her movement. She was a joy to document because she is one of the happiest little girls I have known. (I might be a little biased because she is my niece, but now I have the photos to prove it!)
These birthday photos were my first in the studio and I discovered that I love creating milestone photos. They allow me combine so many different elements and are a fun challenge. I look forward to documenting many more birthdays in the future.
About Natalie:
What occasion brought you in for photos of her? I reached out hoping RTP would be able to do first birthday portraits for Natalie.
Tell us about her personality. Natalie is very energetic at this time. She still takes naps once or twice a day, but when she's awake, she is on the move. She's curious, very playful, and affectionate.
One thing she LOVES. One thing she DOESN'T LOVE. Natalie loves music. She will rock and dance to the beat when she's really enjoying it. She does not like when the doggy snatches her snacks from her, but will sneak her a few occasionally.
What do you enjoy most about her at this age? I love watching her learn. Hearing her say words for the first time is very exciting. She's now saying mama, dada, and uh-oh. Her waves are the cutest thing, and if you ask her, "where is mommy?" She throws her little hands in the air, like "I don't know. Where's mommy?". Seeing her do new things is the most enjoyable part.
What is her birthday party theme? We are having a secret garden themed birthday for her filled with lots of flowers and greenery, fit for a tiny princess.
What stood out to you about your experience with Jessica? Jessica was very patient as we changed Natalie's clothes and got her ready for her session. She explained to us that she thoroughly cleaned before Natalie's arrival. I found that to be very thoughtful of her. As she spoke to me about the backdrops and props, she seemed to be very excited as well. During the shoot, she allowed Natalie to take breaks, eat snacks, play before trying again to make sure we got a portrait we were really happy with. Even after our session, Jessica was available for questions I had about invites and how to display the photo the best way to maintain the quality of the image.
